Literature Text

Lies are kinder than truths, they're softer,
and they often protect us from harm.
From harming ourselves, from harming others.

But lies are a soft seductive thing, and wrap us up in their roots,
so comfortable at first, like a jacket that fits just right.
But it doesn't because lies aren't right, they're wrong.

The damage they do is slow, almost tender, and seeps in
next to your heart. Constricting you, sapping your essence.

Filling you with guilt and shame and pride,
even convincing you the lie is the truth, or right.

But lies are not right. They are wrong. False. Bad.

But the truth will set you free.
I don't even know what I'm trying to say.
How would anyone else?

That's a nice parallel, between this one and the one on truth. Yes, the truth may hurt, but it's real. Lies may soothe the pain, but it's a hallucinogen that, in your words, "saps your essence"; in other words your reality. It's really up to... whosoever the heart belongs to... to choose which: the bitter reality that helps us grow, or the fatty sweet lies that halts that growth.
